Why did you decide to get sober, or what turn of events lead you to Clear Recovery Center?

After a great deal of mishap and pain, I got to a point in my life where it was impossible for me to believe I didn’t have a problem with drugs and alcohol.  I had tried to get sober multiple times over the prior few years but it never stuck.  I thought that I would eventually be able to make things work out the way that I wanted to, but finally realized I had to get sober or continue to live my life in the miserable cycle of addiction that I was in.

How has your perspective on life changed since beginning recovery?

I am a much more positive and motivated person today.  I used to always just look for the negative in life and I didn’t have any goals that I was working towards. Recovery has given me confidence, optimism, and motivation. I have had a shift in perception which has allowed me to stay strong through hard times and seek more for myself in life!

What are you looking forward to in the future?

Before I got sober, I was never present and enjoy the beautiful moments and experiences in life. I’m really looking forward to continue to have experiences that I can truly be present! I look forward to being a part of my family’s lives, going on trips, trying new things, and meeting new people. I am also looking forward to continuing to give back what was given to me in early recovery!

What have you learned about yourself in recovery?

I learned that I have the potential to accomplish things that I want to do if I apply myself.  I have also learned that I am able to make a positive impact on peoples lives, something I never saw as a possibility for myself. Most of all, I’ve learned how to live a healthy and productive lifestyle!

If you could reach out to someone new in recovery, what advice would you give to them?

My advice would be to prioritize their recovery over everything! Early recovery is extremely vital, and should be treated as a top priority. I would tell them to build a community of likeminded positive people who are in recovery, find a sponsor, work the steps, live honestly, and be willing to follow direction!

  • The multi-pronged approach; the counselors, individual therapy, nutrition, sympathetic/empathetic counselors of each group session shifted my brain paths. You are never finished there, even when you “graduate”, they hold alumni group sessions when you feel you need it. I have nothing but gratitude for their program.

  • Clear Recovery Center is my second family that I never knew I had that supported me and continues to passionately support the sober community. The therapists, counselors and group facilitators have been amazing in helping me have a voice, loving myself again, and seeing the world in a new light. I am eternally grateful.
