Mental Heath and Addiction With Teens & Adolescents

When it comes to mental health and addiction, there is no one-size-fits-all treatment. Certain methods and approaches that might work for adults won’t necessarily be a good fit for younger people. This makes it vital that treatment centers have age-specific programs.

At Clear Recovery Center, we offer tailored support for adolescents and teens that addresses their specific stressors and struggles in order to provide the most comprehensive treatment. We understand that teen addiction treatment provides this age group with the tools their generation needs to become sober and healthy.

Generation Specific Concerns for Young People

There are unique pressures associated with being an adolescent or teenager in today’s world. People in this age group find themselves juggling pressures related to academics, sports, and social lives. They may experience somewhat volatile relationships with family and friends, as well as venturing into the world of dating. Social media injects pressure to feel popular, rack up a high count of friends and followers, and appear to have an interesting, activity-filled life.

Most recently, teenagers have had to learn to live with a worldwide pandemic and how it affected their schooling, personal lives, and health. All of these things combined can leave them feeling stressed or overwhelmed, which puts them at an increased risk of developing anxiety and depression.

When teens and adolescents do not have healthy coping skills, another danger comes into play. They are more prone to turn to self-medicating with drugs or alcohol. What begins as trying drinking and using drugs socially or as an experiment can quickly turn into a full-blown addiction. Once the effects of teen drug use take hold, parents need to seek adolescent drug rehab in order to help turn their child’s life around.

Is It Substance Abuse or Just Being a Teenager?

As a parent, you may be unsure of if your child is exhibiting signs of drug use. Teens and adolescents begin breaking away from their parents naturally at this age. This can make it difficult to know if they are merely demonstrating signs of blossoming independence and healthy experimentation or if they are showing signs of teen drug use.

Your child may switch from socializing with old friends to a newer crowd that you may not know. They may also begin exhibiting a rebellious attitude or breaking house rules, such as curfew. Many teenagers experience mood swings or show signs of depression or anxiety.

While lots of teenagers go through these phases naturally, they are all worth investigating to see what the source may be and how you can help your child. When drug use is caught at an early age, it can make addressing it easier for everyone involved. The sooner they are identified, the easier it is to combat and eradicate the effects of teen drug use.

How We Help Young People

In our teen and adolescent programming, Clear Recovery Center addresses unique concerns that face this generation. Because many of our case managers and therapists have faced similar challenges and overcome them, our team is able to authentically engage with teens in our program. This “been there done that” experience helps establish trust between our staff and our young clients.

We assess all areas of our client’s lives in order to offer treatment and tools specific to their needs. Our teen addiction treatment takes place after school hours, allowing your child to continue their education while they attend our program. We provide our clients with individual therapy, weekly family sessions, academic counseling, and career counseling.

Clear Recovery Center offers multiple types of treatment, including outpatient, intensive outpatient services, and partial hospitalization. We provide evidence-based treatment and routine drug screenings.

We also provide a clinical/psychiatric assessment as part of our overall approach to treatment. Many young people suffering from a substance use disorder also have co-occurring mental health issues, such as depression or anxiety. We are able to address both addictions and learning to manage mental health symptoms, providing our young clients with all the tools they need to heal.

Our case management starts when your child begins our program and continues until they complete it. Our ability to monitor their progress helps us to assess what progress they made during treatment. This allows us to provide them with the tools they will need for moving forward after their time at Clear Recovery Center.

  • The multi-pronged approach; the counselors, individual therapy, nutrition, sympathetic/empathetic counselors of each group session shifted my brain paths. You are never finished there, even when you “graduate”, they hold alumni group sessions when you feel you need it. I have nothing but gratitude for their program.

  • Clear Recovery Center is my second family that I never knew I had that supported me and continues to passionately support the sober community. The therapists, counselors and group facilitators have been amazing in helping me have a voice, loving myself again, and seeing the world in a new light. I am eternally grateful.

  • From the get go, the staff made me feel welcome and were all very friendly. My therapist and case manager were also very helpful and supportive throughout the whole process. I found that the somatic therapy was the most valuable for me, the therapist who ran those groups was great. My biggest takeaway from treatment was to take the time to pause, not be afraid to ask for help, and not worry about things in the moment. If you are looking for meaningful change and being part of a new and supportive community, then Clear Recovery is the right fit.

  • Overall I loved the experience and did not want to leave. The staff was very helpful and motivated me to stay even when I felt like running away. I also built meaningful connections with my therapist and case manager who gave me a lot of useful advice and are still supporting me today. Since leaving, my family and sponsor have noticed a big difference, and I could not recommend a more supportive environment for addiction and mental health treatment, Clear saved my life.
