Medical Detox in Los Angeles, CA
Withdrawal refers to the physical, mental, and emotional symptoms that occur upon the abrupt discontinuation or decrease in the intake of addictive substances. Withdrawal from drugs or alcohol can sometimes be life-threatening if not properly supervised by professionals. Medical detoxification, or medical detox, is the recommended first step in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction to safely manage withdrawal symptoms in individuals who have become physically dependent on a substance.
At Clear Residential Center, our goal is to make the detoxification process as safe and comfortable as possible. We offer medically supervised detox in Los Angeles that provides individualized treatment and around-the-clock care.
Our Los Angeles based addiction treatment center allows each individual to begin their recovery from drug or alcohol addiction in a safe and calm environment.
What To Expect at a Los Angeles Addiction Treatment Center
Detox from alcohol or drugs can take between 5 to 7 days, sometimes longer depending on the individual’s overall health, the severity of use, and the substance of choice. Upon intake, clients meet with a physician who conducts a comprehensive evaluation and designs an individualized detoxification protocol using medication-assisted therapy.
Our attending physician, alongside a team of nurses, licensed clinicians, and certified counselors, closely monitor each client to ensure comfort and safety during the detox process in a private and intimate residential setting. Our team is committed to compassionate and individualized care with a sensitivity to the physical and emotional needs that arise during detox in Los Angeles. Every client is assigned a therapist and case manager who supports them throughout their entire stay.
Upon stabilization, clients transition into our residential program located in Redondo Beach, CA.
Highlights of Our Detox Program
Medically supervised detoxification under Dr. Jason Giles, M.D., Board Certified Addictionologist
Upon admission each client meets with the doctor for a full medical history to assess their physical and mental state in order to prescribe a safe and comfortable detox treatment plan.
Incidental medical services (blood draws, labs, testing…)
To achieve the best possible outcomes our licensed and trained personnel provide additional services such blood draws, labs, and testing to contribute to holistic wellbeing.
Nursing support and supervision
Our nurses attend to each patient 24/7 and provide medical attention as needed. Our nurses work closely with the doctor to administer prescribed medications and reduce any discomfort associated with the withdrawal process.
Medication-assisted treatment for withdrawal management
We use FDA-approved medications to reduce withdrawal symptoms and psychological cravings that occur during detoxification. By keeping the body and brain chemistry balanced, medical stabilization is achieved and recovery work can begin.
Supportive and multimodal therapeutic services
We use a variety of therapeutic techniques and modalities at once to treat the whole person rather than focus narrowly on specific symptoms.
Counseling Services
Clear Recovery Center uses a comprehensive approach. Each level of care employs a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, case management, and psychiatry. Some of the evidence-based modalities offered at our Los Angeles facility include:
Psychiatry
Clients benefit significantly from a multidisciplinary team approach that includes psychiatry to cater adequately to medication management. The collaborative nature of our team allows our psychiatrists to benefit from the complementary skills of the therapists, case managers, and group facilitators who provide critical observational assessments and insight for each client so they can better formulate more effective treatment planning in regards to prescription medication. We are mindful to not disrupt the progression of ongoing treatment plans and our team will coordinate care with their current prescribing psychiatrist.
Case management and life skills
A dedicated case manager works with clients and meets with them weekly to help them identify and unlearn unhealthy behaviors, develop life, vocational and coping skills, facilitate communication and education to families and friends, and coordinate care. Family phone calls are conducted to give families updates on the client’s progress and advise them on how to hold their loved one in early recovery accountable for their actions once they return home. Filing for unemployment, writing letters certifying medical need for a leave of absence and disability, setting up important appointments, referring families to al-anon and/or therapists, coordinating after care plans, and maintaining a line of communication with probation officers, lawyers, and/or employers are some adjunct services that Clear case managers provide to all of our clients.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavior therapy is a form of psychotherapy that helps patients understand the thoughts and feelings that influence behavior. CBT has been scientifically tested and proven to be an effective treatment modality for many disorders. This modality is focused on the present and is problem-solving-oriented. We utilize CBT to assist our clients in learning applicable skills that they can benefit from for the rest of their lives. These skills include identifying misperceptions and distorted thinking, changing behavioral patterns, and modifying beliefs about themselves, others, and the world.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a cognitive-behavioral treatment initially developed to treat chronically suicidal individuals diagnosed with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and is recognized as the gold standard psychological treatment for this population. In addition, research has shown dialectical behavior therapy to be an effective model for treating a wide range of other disorders such as substance dependence, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and eating disorders. DBT is actively woven into our curriculum to assist all clients in learning distress tolerance for difficult emotions more effectively.
Psychodynamic Therapy
The goals of psychodynamic therapy are to promote self-awareness and to increase insight regarding how past experiences shape current beliefs. Psychodynamic therapy focuses on the unconscious processes as they manifest in the client’s present behaviors. This form of therapy is also known as “insight-oriented” therapy. Psychodynamic therapy is based in a highly developed and multifaceted theory of human development and interaction. The approach for this form of therapy has evolved from psychoanalytical theory and has been applied to a wide range of disorders.
Addiction Treatment Services Offered In Los Angeles, CA
12 Step meetings
12 step groups explore each of the steps outlined in the book Alcoholics Anonymous in depth. In these sessions, clients share how they have applied these principles in their own recovery as a way for others to gain insight into their own experiences, and to build strength and hope for their own recovery. These steps are not only a way to overcome addiction, but also serve as a guide toward a new way of life.
Codependency and how to break the cycle
Codependency is a behavioral condition that affects one’s ability to have healthy, mutually satisfying relationships free of insecurity, low self esteem, and guilt. Our groups provide codependent individuals with a safe space to express their emotions and helping clients identify codependent tendencies, understand the root cause of them, and develop self-compassion in order to break the cycle to heal and transform old patterns. These sessions also help clients develop positive relationships with themselves, family, and friends.
Relapse prevention
Relapse prevention groups help clients develop strategies to better manage high-risk situations that are likely to provoke a relapse. Our clinical staff support clients in anticipating these types of circumstances to minimize the risk of relapse.
Some individuals will have setbacks due to certain situations and circumstances in life, and it is not because of moral weakness, a lack of willpower or an unwillingness to stop, but rather an opportunity to re-evaluate and learn from the setback. Relapse is a common and upsetting part of treatment but it doesn’t mean that the recovery journey is over. We encourage those who relapse to come back in and jumpstart their treatment to get back on course to overcome this setback and achieve recovery again.
Psychoeducation on drugs and alcohol
These groups focus on how drugs and alcohol have ravaged an individual’s mind and body. Substance abuse impacts an individual’s psychological health by exacerbating co-occuring mental health issues as well as causing serious long term physical effects such as liver disease, dementia, heart and central nervous system damage, and hypertension. In better understanding these effects that drugs and alcohol have on their mental and physical health, clients can find the motivation to embark on their recovery journey and make the life changes needed to maintain sobriety.
