Let us help you today.
Many hold the misconception that marijuana is not addictive. Marijuana is not life-threatening like substances such as cocaine or heroin. However, a person can still develop a psychological addiction to the drug. Addiction can result in immense negative effects on the brain and bodily functions.
The accessibility of marijuana has made this drug one of the most popular substances to abuse. Addiction remains uncommon. However, it can develop in certain people.
Do you have a loved one you believe is addicted to marijuana? Do they smoke it as soon as they wake up, or can’t go a day without it? Rest assured that there are methods to deal with this problem.
At Clear Recovery Center, we help families and their loved one suffering from drug addiction. We have the resources your loved one needs to live a drug-free life.
What Is Marijuana?
Marijuana is more commonly known by a number of other names such as:
- Mary Jane
- And many other slang terms
The drug comes from the dried leaves and flowers of the cannabis plant. It contains two notable compounds that people utilize.
- The first of these compounds is CBD (cannabidiol). CBD is present in medical cannabis. It comes in the form of oils and other products. It’s used medically to treat chronic pain. CBD is the compound in marijuana that is not mind-altering.
- The other compound in marijuana is THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC is what gives mind-altering highs. These highs are what people seek when they use the substance recreationally. It is also the component that users become addicted to.
How We Treat Marijuana Addiction
Dependency can take many forms. If your loved one is unable to stop using the drug on their own, they may have a dependency. They have an issue if they cannot perform everyday responsibilities without being high.
A person addicted to marijuana might rely on the substance to feel normal or happy. At the same time, they may experience feelings of paranoia or anxiety worsening when they use. They may risk running into legal issues or problems at work. Even if they believe they have an addiction, they may fail multiple times to quit using marijuana as they’ve become accustomed to the habit of smoking and the effect it has.
Clear Recovery treatment provides the motivation your loved one needs to be sober. We’ll equip them with tools that help with:
- Overcoming cravings
- Avoiding relapse
- Living a happier and healthier sober life
At our facility, we foster a sense of motivation. This motivation helps get rid of any ambivalence they may have about sobriety. In our programs, they will learn how marijuana can be an addictive substance and how it can impact their health and social well-being.
We offer a holistic approach to recovery so that your loved one can quit marijuana for good.
At Clear Recovery, we have three different programs. Each is designed to fit your different needs during each stage of recovery.
The Partial Hospitalization Program
This program is the best solution for patients who have finished the initial supervised medical withdrawal. They’re ready to begin behavioral therapy and intensive counseling. They spend 5 hours at the center for 5 days every week. Depending on their needs, this program can last between 2 to 8 weeks.
The Intensive Outpatient Program
Our intensive outpatient program lasts approximately 12 weeks. Patients meet with our professionals for 3 days per week for 4 hours. They join this program after completing the partial hospitalization program. It’s designed to help with the transition back into everyday life. It allows them to put new coping skills into use.
This program is for those who feel that they are ready to return to normal life. However, they’ll still have the support of our team and our community. They’ll attend meetings 1 to 2 times per week while in this program.
WHAT WE TREAT
Co-occuring Addiction and Mental Health Issues
Substance use disorders can coincide with mental health or even multiple issues at once. That includes mood, developmental, eating, and behavioral disorders. Clear Recovery Center is equipped to handle a wide variety of co-occurring disorders.
How Marijuana Is Used
When most people think of using marijuana, they think of smoking it. However, there are a variety of ways that people can use this drug. The delivery method is important. The drug has different effects on people depending on how it is consumed.
Most people smoke marijuana. However, even smoking can be done in a variety of ways. Some people use joints, which are hand-rolled cigarettes. Others smoke weed in blunts, which are similar to joints but are rolled-up cigars. Other users smoke them in pipes or bowls. Some people inhale the smoke through bongs or vape pens.
Another method is ingestion. People sometimes consume marijuana by brewing it into tea. More commonly, they consume it by mixing it into food. These are known as “edibles.” Food laced with marijuana can come in the form of candies, brownies, and cookies.
There are also stronger, more concentrated forms of marijuana. These are available in the form of hash oil, hard shatter, and waxy butter. These powerful forms of the substance are increasingly popular on college campuses.
Why Marijuana Is Addictive
Marijuana use can lead to dependency. This addiction is sometimes known as a marijuana use disorder. The NICA estimates that about 30 percent of users develop some sort of marijuana use disorder. Those who begin using the drug before the age of 18 are 4- to 7-times more likely to develop a disorder than those who partake as adults.
The compounds in marijuana aren’t inherently addictive. However, heavy use of the substance is a sign of addiction. Some users will constantly chase their previous high, leading to a form of psychological addiction. Some people come to believe they need the drug to function.
Those who suffer from marijuana use disorders can experience withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms of marijuana withdrawal include:
- Mood changes
- Loss of focus
- Diminished appetite
Users experience withdrawal in the same way as those who suffer from any other drug addiction. As such, users addicted to marijuana should seek help immediately at Clear Recovery Center.
