Alumni Spotlight – Roxcy S.

Why did you decide to get sober, or what turn of events lead you to Clear Recovery Center?

It wasn’t my decision to go to treatment but ultimately it was my decision to take Clear seriously and continue to be sober. I stayed because I slowly started to become happier than I had been in years.

How has your perspective on life changed since beginning recovery?

Before recovery I believed that my life and the way I was living was all there was for me and no one including me could change that. I now believe that we all have choices and some difficult choices that require hard work but change is absolutely possible.

What are you looking forward to in the future?

I’m looking forward to finishing my bachelors degree! In March when my school quarter ends I am moving to Chicago and applying to grad school. I’m excited to see what the recovery community is like out there.

What have you learned about yourself in recovery?

I learned that I can live a happy and healthy life.

If you could reach out to someone new in recovery, what advice would you give to them?

Just try it out! Even if it feels stupid or like a lost cause give it a little effort because you can always go back to how you were living before, you just probably won’t want too.

  1. Congratulations on your recovery. I couldn’t be more proud of you. Grad school in Chicago, wow!! It’s been an absolute pleasure watching you as you transitioned into the woman you are now. “For a bottle and a hangover, we’ve been given the keys to the kingdom.”
