Why did you decide to get sober, or what turn of events lead you to Clear Behavioral Health?

I got sober because I felt like I had no purpose in life. I was only here to be miserable. I lost all hope and had completely given up on myself and then I had a little window of opportunity where my sister asked me if I wanted help and I don’t know what part of me it was but I made the decision to seek treatment and Clear Behavioral Health kind of fell into my lap and I am forever grateful that it did.

How has your perspective on life changed since beginning recovery?

Within a month of me being at Clear and talking about what was really going on I slowly rebuilt that sense of purpose in life. I have learned that the people in my life are here to help me, not hurt me. I am able to trust in the whole world of treatment. I have been able to trust the process and let go of the false belief that I can’t trust anyone. I used to shrink at life, like it was scary. It was so scary and now I feel like life is so worth embracing.

What are you looking forward to in the future?

I look forward to giving back the help and the love I have received throughout this process and to finding out what my passion is and having the self-esteem to pursue that passion. I look forward to the relationships that I have built throughout this process and strengthening those and the relationships to come.

What have you learned about yourself in recovery?

I learned that I am capable and that I am intelligent and that I matter.

If you could reach out to someone new in recovery, what advice would you give to them?

Give yourself a chance to experience something new and listen to that little inkling that everyone has. Hold on to the glimmer of hope or that little piece of yourself that wants help and trust the guidance even when it feels uncomfortable.
