California residents can also utilize Magellan’s California provider search. Members will be able to find a provider for services related to substance abuse and addiction, mental health, or any other needed service by narrowing down their options to the one that best suits them.

Magellan may require that their members receive pre-authorization for admittance to a drug and alcohol rehab program. Other programs require authorization to be given within the first 48 hours of treatment.  Members should make sure to check to see what sort of preauthorization they may need prior to beginning treatment. Failure to do so may result in treatment not being covered.

Which types of services are covered for a person depends on the plan they have and the state in which they live. Some plans may require a copayment or coinsurance or that the member has met a specific deductible. The majority of Magellan plans require that any addiction treatment must be given by an in-network provider. Anyone using an out-of-network provider may end up paying a higher cost or the full cost of treatment.
